Bootleggers Banjo and Fiddle Society

Oldtime is coming back to the Undercurrent! We'll be hosting a fortnightly jam on Wednesdays at 6pm. The jam session will feature the traditional Oldtime music of the Appalachian Mountain regions of America, typically with banjo, fiddle, guitar, double bass, spoons and flatfooting.

About the event

Its been a long time with no Oldtime action in the Undercurrent, but that is, I hope, about to change. We are starting the Bootleggers Fiddle and Banjo Society, to meet fortnightly ostensibly and officially for the purpose of playing Oldtime music.

Starting:

Wed 21 February at 6pm

118 Tory St, Wellington

Parking at Brendon Motors across the road

As currently imagined, the sessions would aim to keep a good energy flow and be mostly lead by the more experienced players. When the tunes are played for a long time you have the opportunity to learn by watching and listening and gain confidence. You can make progress and its a whole bunch of fun.

Frequent key changing, following sheet music and swearing in mixed company will be frowned upon, but tolerated if absolutely necessary. Listeners and dancers very welcome. Instruments are fiddle, banjo, guitar, double bass, spoons and saws. All other instruments will be viewed with suspicion.

A koha is requested for the venue and snacks, tea and coffee. More serious drinks will be available for purchase. To enable this, the society will be membership based. Join up on arrival.

We look forward to seeing you there!
