The Undercurrent presents... Cotton Daisy Backstep!

Cotton Daisy Backstep play the old ‘hillbilly’ music of the Appalachian Mountains with songs of the pioneers, haunting ballads, old gospels, shotgun totin’ moonshiners and tub-thumping dance tunes with wonderful harmonies and driving rhythms.

Helena spent 10 years in West Virginia steeped in the local music traditions learning from the old folks. Returning to NZ in 2003 she assembled the oldtime band Cotton Daisy Backstep. They have been playing cafes, folk clubs, festivals and square dances around the Wellington area, appearing at events such as Cupa Dupa, Wellington Gardens Magic, Newtown Festival and won the Wellington Folk festival [People’s Choice Award 2018].

Band members include: Helena Faust on banjo/vocals, Philip Muollo on guitar, Bill Vella on double bass, and gifted singer Mili De Mayo recently joining the group.
