About the event
Millie Moon - Walking Songs - A Story of Songs from Te Araroa
Once upon a time, she walked the length of Aotearoa New Zealand. To scream at the ocean, to sing at the trees, to curse the effing supplejack vine. She walked to process grief, to know alone, to remember home. While she walked, she sang. In an intimate performance of story and songs for wandering feet, Moon's retelling of walking Te Araroa hiking trail, celebrates the power of voice, body, and being shit scared but doing it anyway!
Following a self-produced international tour, Walking Songs received the 'Best Music' award at Melbourne Fringe Festival 2023.
A captivating performer, Moon's themes intimately reflect personal explorations of belonging, naming and finding self in the natural world, while her weaving of poetry, story and a raw, elemental vocal style, captivates and connects in universal experience.
Drawing from an eclectic background as a vocalist for AUS & NZ projects including The Dead Amigos, Eloquor and her original soul-rock outfit, Winter Moon, Moon's solo sound is a visceral, joyous and darkly explosive musical storytelling, her return to Aotearoa reuniting her to roots in poetry, prose and a veneration for unadorned song.
"A seemingly unstoppable force of nature Milly Moon's voice dips and rises into eccentric lows and chilling falsettos... It's a show-stopping performance" – Bored In Pittsburgh USA
"My goodness, she can sing. There's a soulful, sometimes almost gospel tone to [her] music, performed with minimal accompaniment and little ceremony...it's mesmerising" - Wee Review UK
"Masterfully delivered, heartfelt storytelling at its purest." – Vanessa Stacey Fringe Festival Director NZ
